About me & this site
Annette Mann Bourne
I am a research and policy writer professionally, who uses her love of history, society, and politics to offer ideas that embrace our humanity and help to grow community.
I grew up in Brooklyn and Queens, NY, and spent my high-school years in Hollywood, FL. I attended college in Boston, and became a Massachusetts resident after graduating. Since 1980, I have lived in three of the six New England states. In 2004, my work brought me to Rhode Island. I settled in Cranston with my husband and daughter, and became very active in civic and community initiatives.
Throughout my professional career, I have been mission-driven—whether for a neighborhood arts center, a prestigious academic society studying international security, or various housing organizations providing counseling, setting policy, or research and analysis. I like to joke that my professional career began with a goal of world peace but when that proved a stretch, I turned instead to the goal of housing affordability. In retrospect, I know they are deeply related, though I am now unsure which is actually more difficult to achieve.
